SGS Councils and Committees

​The University of Toronto values consultation with members of the academic community to deliver graduate education of the highest quality. 

Graduate Education Council

The Graduate Education Council (GEC) is an academic advisory and approval body responsible for developing and implementing academic policy and regulations for SGS and for graduate studies at the University of Toronto.

Council of Graduate Deans

The Council of Graduate Deans (CGD) is a forum for the discussion of changes to policies and procedures and of emerging issues affecting graduate education.

Graduate Academic Appeals Board

The Graduate Academic Appeals Board (GAAB)​​ is delegated from the Graduate Education Council and has the mandate to handle and decide upon all academic appeals by students in connection with the School of Graduate Studies.

Non-Standard Admissions & Programs Committee

The Non-Standard Admissions and Programs Committee (A&P)​ is delegated the power from the Graduate Education Council to waive, or modify in individual students cases, the application of an SGS regulation concerning admissions, registration, or enrolment. The Committee also considers requests from graduate units on exemption from cases of non-standard admissions, leaves of absence, course extension deadlines, grading, program completion time limits, and posthumous degrees. The Committee is chaired by the Vice-Dean, Students. 

Awards Committee​

Members of the Awards Committee serve, as appropriate, on subcommittees assessing applications for awards from the major granting councils; smaller subcommittees are also drawn from the Awards Committee for adjudication of internal awards. The Awards Committee may also provide advice on procedures and policies concerning graduate awards.​
